Product Description Affordable elegance taken up a notch! The Riedel Vinum Extreme Wine Glass series pushes the boundaries of glassware. Riedel combines a dazzling oversized bowl with a unique angular look and an extra-tall stem to create a wine glass that is as beautiful to look at as it is to drink from. Vinum Extreme is machine made of fine lead crystal and is designed in the incomparable Riedel style to emphasize and enhance the flavors of every wine you drink. Recommend to hand wash. The Cabernet / Merlot / Bordeaux wine glass is ideal for full-bodied, complex red wines that are higher in alcohol and tannins. The generous size allows the wine to aerate in the glass and the bouquet to develop fully. The shape of the rim directs the flow of the wine to the front palate to enhance sweetness, thus accentuating the fruit while softening bitter tannins. Recommended for: Bordeaux (red), Brunello di Montalcino, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc. Size: 9-3/4"H x 2-6/8" Dia., 28-1/4 oz. Riedel Model # 444/0
Amazon.com Review Renowned European glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. To meet the demand of today's increasingly more concentrated wines, Riedel developed the Vinum Extreme line, which features a pronounced diamond shaped bowl. Oversized and extra-tall, each standing 9-3/4 inches tall and holding a whopping 30-3/8 ounces at full capacity, the two Vinum Extreme glasses in this set are designed especially to give Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plenty of breathing surface. At the same time, the modern diamond shape looks distinctly snazzier than typical wine stems. Though Vinum Extreme glasses are machine-made to be affordable, the glasses nonetheless consist of 24 percent lead crystal for distinctive clarity and brilliance. The set of two European-made glasses makes a handsome wedding gift or augments an existing collection. While dishwasher-safe, Vinum Extreme crystal, especially in the larger sizes, is best washed by hand to prevent both breakage and the detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri

If you can pay 50+ dollars for a bottle of wine, you can pay $30 for this glass. July 21, 2010 makoo Pros
Really brings out the nose in the wine.
Wine tastes a bit better too.
Work of art.
Cons
Pricey.
Fragile (you must ALWAYS baby it).
For serious wine lovers January 10, 2010 SC (Hagerstown, MD) As they say-you get what you pay for. These are great glasses for cabernet; they allow you to enjoy the bouquet besides just the taste of the wine.
Pricey, but I love them July 9, 2009 K. Graff (Chicago) These are beautiful glasses made at an extremely high quality. I just wish my wife would stop knocking them on the floor.
You should try these glasses December 27, 2008 N. John (Marysville, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I attended a party some years back and the host opened some wines that had people oohing and aahhing. This party opened up a whole new world to me which was unexpected. The host's brother, who had worked at Columbia Winery in Washington State, saw I had been poured some of this prized wine from the host's cellar and was drinking it from a smallish wine glass of dubious ancestry. He asked what I thought of the wine, which I replied was delicious, and he brought one of the host's Riedel glasses to me. I was asked to taste it in the ordinary glass and then taste it after pouring it into the Riedel. I was skeptical and thought he was a real wine snob. But when I followed his suggestion it was almost as if I was drinking two different wines and the Riedel glass clearly brought out the best of the wine.
I asked for a set of the Pinot Noir/Burgundy glasses that Christmas, a set of Chardonnay the following Christmas and now I'm buying myself a set of the Cabernet/Merlot glasses as a New Year's present.
You will not regret the expense of these glasses once you sip something tasty from them. And you may find that people who don't know of these glasses or the reason for them may snicker as I did the first time I saw the size of them. Just buy them and enjoy and do for any skeptics what the party's host's brother did for me those years ago. Do a side by side test with the same wine in ordinary wine glass and a Riedel. Maybe they will be swayed like I was and then become a student of wines.
Big Glass for a Big Red July 10, 2008 Kathy (Lake Tahoe, CA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a very nice wine glass and the biggest red wine glass I have owned. It is significantly larger (28oz vs 22oz, about an inch taller and has a wider bowl) than the Riedel Vinum Red Wine Glasses I own. Personally, it is not as comfortable to hold due to the very large size. Also, be very careful hand washing all Riedel Red Wine Glasses as not to twist off the stem. I've done it twice when I thought I was being careful. My recommendation - skip the 'Vinum Extreme' line, stick with the 'Vinum' line.
