| Customer Reviews: Careful with refrigerator ice dispensers September 14, 2009 Linda Ferree What we like about these glasses: weighted bottom - doesn't tip or knock over easily. Curved sillouette fits in hand nicely - wet glass doesn't slip out of grip. Attractive.
Problem: The flaired top means that our ice maker puts too much pressure on the rim of the 16 oz size. Out of 16 glasses, we've broken 7 in less than a year. It didn't always immediately cause a break, but apparently weakened or stressed the glass, and it would later crack or break spontaneously. We finally figured out the problem, and now keep a different small glass on the shelf of the ice maker to use as a server. We probably wouldn't have chosen these particular glasses had we been aware that they couldn't handle an ice maker. Seems like a fair requirement of a glass. I did communicate with Anchor Hocking, and sent two of the glasses back to them for inspection. Their analysis says that "handling has caused breakage from rim impact." This confirms that the rim cannot handle the pressure of the (plastic) trigger of our ice maker. Anchor Hocking has been very reasonable and more than fair to work with, and they have replaced the broken glasses. We do like these glasses a lot other than this problem.
color not as pictured March 25, 2009 Julia (NYC, US) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The quality is good and all, the design is elegant. Only reason for a 4-star review is that in the picture the color is aqua, while in reality these are just clear glasses. And I only bought them in the first place because of the color (don't much care for clear glass tumblers).
Didn't want to go through the hassle of returning, especially in light of the positive characteristics.
